Plant a Row for the Hungry
Join Cooperative Extension and Chesterfield Extension Master Gardeners in support of Plant A Row for the Hungry (PAR), a national people-helping-people program that encourages gardeners to grow a little extra and donate the produce. Chesterfield gardeners can help feed the hungry by donating extra produce at the Chesterfield Cooperative Extension office.
When can I donate? We are accepting donations from March 26 to October 31 on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 11 a.m. We will also accept donations at our "Saturdays in the Garden" classes.
What can I donate? We accept both fresh, homegrown produce and commercially canned, unopened food. We are unable to accept home-canned or open canned food donations. Donated produce should:
- be recently harvested
- have no signs of mold, spoilage, bruising or insects
- have excess dirt brushed off, but remain unwashed
- be brought in clean paper bags (preferred) or plastic bags
Where can I donate? You can bring any donations to the Chesterfield Cooperative Extension Office at 9501 Lori Rd, Chesterfield, VA 23832.
Donations are given to Chesterfield Food Bank to help support the growing need for food assistance in Chesterfield County. Last year over 800 lbs of fresh produce was donated from our very own Giving Garden, part of the Extension Demonstration Garden.
